Events in Florence and the Metropolitan area in April 2019

This is a selection of events taking place in April 2019 in Florence and the Metropolitan area. The full programme is listed on the area’s official tourist website, Firenze Turismo

Exhibitions: “Leonardo da Vinci. At the Origins of the Genius” will be inaugurated on 15 April at Museo Leonardiano in Vinci. This event is the highlight of the commemorations to mark the 500th Anniversary of the Master’s death. At Palazzo Strozzi, “Verrocchio the Master of Leonardo” will collect for the first time the extraordinary masterpieces by the artist. Until 28 June at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, “Bowie by Sukita” will showcase 60 photographs retracing the partnership between the rock-pop legend and the Japanese master, Masayoshi Sukita. Every Monday, through 2019, young people aged between 18 and 25 will be granted free entry to Museum of Palazzo Vecchio, Museum Novecento, Museum Stefano Bardini, Cappella Brancacci, and the Salvatore Romano Foundation.
Fairs and markets – From 24 April to 1 May, Fortezza da Basso will host the 83rd International Handicrafts Fair. Six hundred exhibitors will participate in the fair which this year will be held over 8 days instead of 12. With the arrival of spring more and more weekend events will be organised in the metropolitan area. Among others: on 13 and 14 April Lastra a Signa will host the 10th “Botanica”, trade show of rare and collector’s plants. On 22 April “2000 Fiori”, 2000 Flowers in Scaperia will be dedicated to Tuscan and local nurseries from Mugello. On 25 April Pelago hosts “BioFioricola” dedicated to organic products.
For the food festivals – On 6 and 7 April the “Ice Cream Festival” 2019 will be back at Piazzale Michelangelo. From 12 to 14 April Fiesole hosts the “Artisan Chocolate: Fair. The “Street Food Festival” will be held in Scandicci from 11 to 14 April.
