Events in Florence and the Metropolitan area in August 2018

Here is a selection of events taking place in August 2018 in the Metropolitan City of Florence. The programme is listed on the area’s official tourist website: firenzeturismo.it

The most awaited event in August is the Night of Saint Lawrence, which many local districts will be celebrating with the wine tasting of Calici di Stelle. The other highlight this month is the Feast of Ferragosto. Estate Fiorentina will also continue to offer its vibrant programme of events.
Exhibitions – The Uffizi Gallery which has recently opened a new room dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci, will host a major retrospective of Fritz Koenig, one of the most acclaimed German sculptors of the 20th century. Palazzo dei Vicari in Scarperia will host the 45th Navajas da Sogno, in partnership with the Spanish town of Albacete.
For the Events: the Agricultural Fair of Alto Mugello will be held on 4 and 5 August in Palazzuolo sul Senio. From 20 to 26 August Gambassi Terme will host the 51st Trade Show and The14th Palio delle Contrade. The horse race will see a parade of allegorical carts, and the most characteristic will be presented with an award. Antica Fiera wil be back in Lastra a Signa from 31 August to 2 September.
Palio di San Lorenzo will take place from 4 to 10 August in Borgo San Lorenzo, where the four neighbourhoods will compete to win the traditional drape.
On 13 August, the celebration of the patron saint’s festival in san casciaqno will me marked by a firework display.
Various event will take place in San Godenzo, hosting Festa dell’Appennino from 2 to 5 August, the Music Festival from 10 to 18 and the Beer Festival from 24 to 26.
The Beat Festival will be back in Empoli from the 24 to the 26 August. Set against the backdrop of Parco di Serravalle, the festival will offer international music, the best of street food, sport and entertainment.
