The most awaited and traditional celebration in January is the arrival of the Befana, in all the town squares across the metropolitan area.
The most unusual event will be held in San Piero a Sieve, where the broomstick-riding old woman will instead come aboard a steam train. Not to be missed is the Cavalcade of the Three Wise Men, with historical processions held in Florence, Fucecchio and Borgo San Lorenzo.
In Londa, on 6 January, the whole town will be involved in the live nativity scene. This will also be the last chance to bask in the magical light display of the Florence Light Festival which closes on 6 January.
Exhibitions – Time is running out to see The cleaner, the show dedicated to the iconic works of Marina Abramović, at Palazzo Strozzi until 20 January.  The exhibition. “This is not a photo opportunity”, showcasing works of the acclaimed street artist, Banksy, will be held at Palazzo Medici Riccardi until 24 February. From 8 January at Palazzo Pitti, Animalia Fashion, will explore the relationship between fashion and animals over the last decade. Pitti Immagine is back at Fortezza da Basso from 8 January, offering a series of events throughout the month. The fashion industry events will start with Immagine Uomo, followed by Immagine Bimbo and Immagine Filati.
Food festivals: On 5 and 6 January Cerreto Guidi will host Sapori d’inverno and CerretoCiok, a feast of artisan chocolate, gathering the most famous brands in the sector.
Finally for the Sports: throughout the month the Florence Winter Park will offer fun activities bringing the magic of snow to Lungarno Aldo Moro. Those who love Ice Skating, will also find rinks in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, in Greve in Chianti in Piazza Matteotti, and in Scandicci in via Pantin.
