Events in June 2021 in Florence and the Metropolitan Area

This is a selection of events taking place in June 2021 in Florence and the Metropolitan area. The full programme is listed on the area’s official tourism website, Feel Florence

June will see the start of  Estate Fiorentina bringing  its vast program of events throughout the metropolitan area until 30th September.  The 74th Estate Fiesolana will also begin on 21st June taking place against the backdrop of the Roman Amphitheatre.
Amongst this month’s main events, on 6 June Riccardo Muti will inaugurate Teatro degli Animosi in Marradi which will reopen after some renovation work. The Maestro will direct the Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra.
Dante 700 – A rich programme will  commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Supreme Poet’s death. On 7 June the event ‘A riveder le stelle” ‘to see the stars again’ will take place in Piazza Santa Croce where the great tale of Dante’s Italy will be presented  by Aldo Cazzullo, and read by special guest Piero Pelù.
Exhibitions – Currently held at Palazzo Strozzi, American Art 1961-2021 displays an extraordinary selection of paintings,  photography, videos, sculptures and installations celebrating artworks by the most important american personalities and contemporary art movements in the last sixty years. Until 22 August French artist JR, will reinterpret the facade of Palazzo Strozzi, with his installation, “The wound”.  Until 18 July Museum Novecento will display drawings and sculptures by Henry Moore.
Music –  The 41st season of Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina is in full swing with various concerts across the metropolitan area. On 22 and 23 June Palazzo Medici will host Andrea Bacchetti’s concert. Paesaggi Festival will be back with its concerts on 21 and 28 June in the splendid settings of Villa Pecori Giraldi in Borgo San Lorenzo.  Two concerts on 22 and 30 June will take place at Villa Medicea in Cerreto Guidi as part of the event “Giardini Incantati”.
Festivals – The literary festival, La Citta dei Lettori, will be back in Florence. For the first time the project dedicated to celebrating books and reading will also be extended to other municipalities of the metropolitan area starting from Pontassieve on 18 and 19 June. The castle of Calenzano Alto will host the Street Art Festival, Lunaria, on 19 and 20 June. Advance booking is required.
Food festivals – After the cancellation of its 2020 edition due to the pandemic, The 63rd Mostra del Chianti will be back in Montespertoli from 26 June to 4 July. And this year’s title is a glass half full.
Nature – All through the month, visitors will be able to join guided tours of the most beautiful landscapes in the metropolitan area like  Padule di Fucecchio and the  Vallombrosa Biogenetic Nature Reserve
