August 2023: events in Florence and the surrounding area

Selection of events scheduled for August 2023 in Florence and the surrounding area. The announcements are taken from Feel Florence, the official tourism site of the Municipality of Florence and the metropolitan city area.
Art – Palazzo Medici Riccardi, until 5th September, is hosting the exhibition “Luca Giordano. Baroque master in Florence”, with 50 works of the Neapolitan painter.
Until 13th September the Museum of the 1900s, is hosting the exhibition “Lucio Fontana. The origin of the world”.
At Forte Belvedere, appointment with MELMA, by Nico Vascellari.
Outside Florence, the exhibitions of the cycle “Terre degli Uffizi” are in progress, with loans from the Florentine museum to the Ceramics Museum of Montelupo, Palazzo dei Vicari in Scarperia and the Museo d’Arte sacra of Montespertoli.
In Vinci, until 11th September, “Leonardo’s Anatomic Drawing at the time of Salvator Mundi” with the display of two original drawings of the Genius.

Events – There are numerous fairs dedicated to music, theatre and shows in the districts of the metropolitan area. To name a few: Estate Fiesolana, Scandicci Open City and Arena Summer Fest in Figline and Incisa.

During the month of August, peak of the summer, there is also the night of San Lorenzo, 10th August, celebrated in Florence – with religious events and more, amongst which the watermelon fair, in the homonymous square, and in Borgo San Lorenzo in Mugello, with the palio of San Lorenzo and fireworks.
Firework display in Mugello also on the evening of Ferragosto (15th August) on the banks of Lake Bilancino.
