Events in Florence and the Metropolitan area in April 2021

This is a selection of events taking place in April 2021 in Florence and the Metropolitan area. The full programme is listed on the area’s official tourism website, Feel Florence. Events may be postponed or cancelled in compliance with the governmental regulation to tackle Covid-19.

After the cancellation of last year’s shows, The 83rd Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 2021 will raise the curtain on six operas operas, all of which are new productions, and twelve symphonic and concert events. The Festival will start on 26 April, with the first concert directed by Daniele Gatti. All concerts can be booked online and will be streamed live. Another highlight this month will be the 85th Florence International Crafts Fair, scheduled from 24 April to 2 May at Fortezza da Basso. Due to the current coronavirus restrictions the event will be held online on the new digital showcase of Emporio MIDA.

Exhibitions:

This month will see many initiatives to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Supreme Poet’s death. From 27 April to 28 May, the Historical Archive of the City of Florence will present an exhibition documenting how nineteenth century architecture reflected Dante’s myth in medievalism.

The Uffizi Gallery will present a virtual exhibition dedicated to the collection of 88 drawings known as ‘Dante Istoriato’ by Federico Zuccari. The event will be available throughout Dante’s year in 2021. From 21 April to 31 July Bargello will host Honorable and ancient citizen of Florence” .

In Vinci Museo Leonardiano will present LEONARDO ANATOMY OF DRAWINGS, exploring five of the artist most important drawings reproduced in digital form.

Currently held at Palazzo Strozzi, American Art 1961-2021 displays an extraordinary selection of paintings, photography, video, sculpture and installations. The exhibition celebrates artworks by the most important american personalities and contemporary art movements in the last sixty years.

Until 18 July Museum Novecento will display drawings and scultures by Henry Moore. Seta, a virtual tour of Museo Ferragamo will celebrate the maison’s prints on silk.
