Events in Florence and the Metropolitan Area in February 2020

Here is a selection of events taking place in February 2020 in the Metropolitan City of Florence. The program is listed on the area’s official tourism website, Firenze Turismo
February is the month of Carnival which will be celebrated with dedicated events every Sunday throughout the metropolitan area.
On 21 February, the Palace of the Vicars in Scarperia will host the enchanting event: Carnevale al Palazzo, Carnival at the Palace. Mugello will also host Carnevale Mugellano in Borgo San Lorenzo and for the youngest the Carnevalino dei Ragazzi in Vicchio. Allegorical floats will parade at the Carnevale Dicomanese and in San Mauro a Signa.
Carnevale dei Ragazzi will be held every Sunday in Piazza Ficino, in Figline Valdarno, while Castelfiorentino will welcome back its itinerant event “Carnevale itinerante Castellano”.
Exhibitions: Until 1 March, The Church of Santo Stefano al Ponte, will host the multimedia exhibition “Inside Magritte” dedicated to the acclaimed master of Surrealism. The same movement will go on display at Palazzo Medici Riccardi with Picasso: the other half of the Sky. The exhibition will showcase a series of photographs of the artist, taken by Edward Quinn, some of which will be exhibited for the first time.
Until 19 April, Palazzo Pitti will host the exhibition Worn by the Gods. The art of Shoemaking from Ancient Rome to colossal movies and contemporary fashion. The show focuses on the social role and the symbolic meaning of footwear, starting from the classical world up to the present day.
For the Folklore: On 17 February, Calcio Storico in Piazza Santa Croce will reenact the historical Battle of the Siege held on this day in 1530, when the city of Florence had been under siege by the troops of Charles V for many months. In an act of defiance, the florentines played a football match showing they had very little consideration for the imperial forces.
Finally for the Sports. The Firenze Winter park will offer fun and icy attractions in Lungarno Aldo Moro, until 23 February.
