Events in Florence and the Metropolitan Area in July 2020

This is a selection of events taking place in Florence and the Metropolitan Area in July 2020. The fill program is listed on the area’s official tourism website Firenze Turismo.
As the coronavirus emergency is now entering phase 3, the metropolitan area can slowly start to plan cultural events and to reopen the main museums, like the Uffizi gallery, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the Opera del Duomo and Bargello. Other places of interest including Galleria dell’Accademia, Palazzo Vecchio, the Medici Chapels have opened their doors to local visitors and tourists under safety regulations imposed by the government to control Covid-19. Exhibitions: Palazzo Strozzi will host the show “Aria”, dedicated to Argentinian artist Tomas Saraceno. IN Vinci, Museo Leonardiano will display LEONARDO ANATOMY OF DRAWINGS, featuring Five of the most important drawings by Leonardo reproduced in digital form. Borgo San Lorenzo will host the exhibition Visioni e Geografie by Felice Levini, on display at Chini Contemporary, the research centre on trends in contemporary art, at the Chini Museum. The closing date has been postponed to 30 September. Film and Theatre: In Florence, Arene di Marte, the two outdoor cinemas of the Nelson Mandela Forum, will reopen with the screening of two films per night until 12 September. Arena Grande will program this season’s biggest hits, while Arena Piccola will be dedicated to arthouse cinema. As part of Estate Fiorentina, the Cloister of Santa Maria Novella will also screen open-air movies Estate Fiesolana will take place as usual, Throughout July and until August 31st. The 73 edition this year will see Neri Marcorè, Lella Costa, Chiara Francini, Tullio Solenghi and Dario Vergassola among the artists performing on the Roman Theatre’s stage. With a Revised program from the line up announced back in March, the festival will offer 21 events maintaining the original film list In Empoli. Torrione di Santa Brigida will host “Stasera esco”, a series of live performances which will be held until 6 August. An aperitivo with music can be cherished in the magical atmosphere of the Oliveto Castle, in Castefiorentino, every evening, Thursday to Sunday Music: Two concerts directed by Maestro Zubin Mehta for Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, will bring back musical notes to Teatro del Maggio and to some of the most iconic venues in town. The revised program of Estate Fiorentina will bring the itinerant shows of “Musica in giro” in the squares and along the streets of Florence’s districts with a procession of environmentally friendly vans.
