Events in Florence and the Metropolitan area in June 2019

This is a selection of events taking place in June 2019 in Florence and the Metropolitan area. The full programme is listed on the area’s official tourism website, Firenze Turismo

The feast of Saint John on the 24 June in Florence, will be the highlight of the month. The celebration will culminate with the traditional “fochi”, the fireworks display taking place in the evening. while the final match of Calcio Storico Fiorentino will be held in the afternoon in Piazza Santa Croce.

Exhibitions – As part of the events to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death, Museo Leonardiano in Vinci will host “Leonardo da Vinci. At the origins of the genius”.

Verrocchio the Master of Leonardo will be held at Palazzo Strozzi. until 24 June Palazzo Vecchio will display a selection of drawings from the famous Atlantic Codex. until 28 June, Palazzo Medici Riccardi will exhibit 60 photographs retracing the friendship between the pop-rock legend, David Bowie and the Japanese master photographer Masayoshi Sukita.

Fairs and markets – From 6 to 9 June the 39th Fiera Agricola Mugellana, will be back in Borgo San Lorenzo. Attracting thousands of visitors, this historical Agricultural fair will showcase excellence in the rural and livestock sectors from Mugello and the Province of Florence. From 21 to 23 June Montelupo Fiorentino will host Ceramica. For the past 27 years, this International Ceramics Festival has been offering a rich programme of events including tours and workshops.

Food festivals: the Steak Championship will be held on 14 and 15 June in San Casciano. Lastra a Signa will host the 42nd Sagra della Ficattola from the 18 June to 2 July. Sagra del Porcino mushroom will take place in Reggello from 21 to 30 June while Scarperia will host the Sagra del Tortello Mugellano from 22 to 30 June.

Music: The Visarno Arena will host the new edition of Firenze Rocks with a line up of international artists such as Tool, Eddie Vedder, Ed Sheeran and The Cure.
