This is a selection of events taking place in March 2019 in Florence and the Metropolitan area. The full programme is listed on the area’s official tourist website, Firenze Turismo

Exhibitions: Verrocchio, The Master of Leonardo will open at Palazzo Strozzi on 9 March. This exhibition will bring together, for the first time, the artists’ celebrated masterpieces. To commemorate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci’s death, on 29 March a selection of drawings from his Atlantic Codex will go on display at Palazzo Vecchio

Banksy this is not a photo opportunity will be extended until 24 March at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the seat of the Metropolitan City of Florence.
Hosted at the Aula Magliabechiana of Uffizi Gallery, the exhibition “Essere” will showcase works by British sculptor Antony Gormley.

Every Monday throughout 2019 young people aged between 18 and 25, who are a citizen of the European Union, will be offered free entry to the Museum of Palazzo Vecchio, Museum Novecento, Museum Stefano Bardini, Brancacci Chapel and the Salvatore Romano Foundation.

Folklore: Carnival will be the main attraction in March with events taking place every Sunday in almost all districts of the metropolitan area.
From 15 to 17 March Fortezza da Basso will host “Firenze Fantasy”, the winter edition of the Unicorn Festival taking place in Vinci in July.

Food festivals: From 1to 10 March Certaldo will host the second Festa Delle Massaie. The gastronomic festival offering tastings of typical Tuscan dishes will take place at the new Centro Polivalente Comunale. On 16 and 17 March Greve in Chianti will host the Festival of Saint Joseph Fritters. Bagno a Ripoli will also dedicate a festival to the traditional rice fritters, until 19 March.
