Events in Florence and the Metropolitan Area in March 2020

This is our selection of events taking place in Florence and the metropolitan area in March 2020. The full program is listed on the area’s official tourism website,  Firenze Turismo

March is the month of Spring which will also be marked by traditional events in preparation for Easter:  The Lenten Fair and the Cricket Festival will be back at Cascine Park, every Sunday.
EXHIBITIONS: At Palazzo Medici Riccardi,  Tutankhamun: Journey to Eternity will display over 100 replicas of the Pharaoh’s treasures from Cairo, and original finds from the National Archaeological Museum of Florence.
Until 19 March, Palazzo Pitti will host  Worn by the Gods. The art of Shoemaking from Ancient Rome to colossal movies and contemporary fashion. The exhibition focuses on the social role and the symbolic meaning of footwear, starting from the classical world up to the present day.
For children, the exhibition Dinosaur Invasion will be held in Viale Guidoni next to the Paganelli Sports Centre.
Folklore: On 25 March Florence will celebrate its traditional New Year in Piazza SS Annunziata. The Florentine New Year is included in the calendar of traditional festivities celebrated since the 7th century.
On 29 March Fucecchio will host the Spring Runs,  in preparation for Palio delle Contrade taking place in May.
Food will be the main attraction in Greve in Chianti with the Festival of Saint Joseph fritters on 21 and 22 March,  Scarperia will host the Mixed Fried Festival in on 28 and 29 March while in Certaldo the Marzuolo Truffle Festival will take place from 13 to 29 March.
Music: On 16 March, rapper Anastasio will hold a concert at the TuscanyHall Theatre.
Brunori Sas will perform at Mandela Forum on 21 March. Teatro Verdi will host Raf Tozzi on 8 March and Renzo Arbore on 21 March. From 26 to 29 March the Giotto Jazz Festival will take place in Vicchio.
