Florence and metropolitan area: events in November 2021

Here is a rundown of events scheduled for November 2021in Florence and the surrounding area. The announcements are taken from Feel Florence, the official tourism site of the Municipality of Florence and the metropolitan city area.

Dante 700 – Several events have been planned to mark the 700th anniversary of the death of “the Supreme Poet”. Open until January, the Bargello Museum is hosting the exhibition The Admirable Vision: Dante and the Comedy in the Symbolist Imagination, which explores the influence of Dante in the art and literature of the second half of the 1800s. A delightful little exhibition dedicated to the poet, called The Celebration of Dante, will be held at Palazzo Medici Riccardi and the Biblioteca Moreniana library until November 16. The Basilica of Santa Croce will host an innovative cultural project created by the artist Felice Limosani.

Exhibitions – Inside Dalì, is a fascinating multimedia art exhibition based on the life of the Catalan artist; it is showing at the “Cattedrale dell’Immagine” in Florence until January 16. Anima, an exhibition celebrating the greats of animation from Snow White to Goldrake, currently on display at Palazzo Medici Riccardi has been extended until November 14. The Museo degli Innocenti [the 15th century orphanage-turned-museum] is celebrating those legendary little bricks with the show I love Lego, on until January 31. In Vicchio, take a dive into the prehistoric. The large park next to the municipal swimming pool will be transformed into a “Jurassic Park”, populated with dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. Display on until February 2022.

Music and festivals – The classical music festival “Suoni Riflessi” returns this autumn for its nineteenth edition; with a focus on emerging talents, thirteen events, running until November 14, will take place in Florence, Bagno a Ripoli and Empoli. The international festival of dance “la democrazia del corpo” returns for its 21st edition with performances and workshops, running until December 11. At the La Compagnia Cinema and the Manifattura Tabacchi arts centre, the 14th edition of the Schermo dell’Arte” film festival will take place from 10 to 14 November.

Food & Wine – From 12 to 14 November, “Autumnia”, an event dedicated to agriculture, the environment and nutrition will take place in the old town centre of Figline Valdarno, in the Figline and Incisa Valdarno area.

Sport & walking – Following its cancellation in 2020, the Firenze Marathon is back; amongst the 20 most important marathons in the world, and in Italy, second only to the Rome marathon, the biggest road running event in Tuscany will take place on November 28.
