Inverno Metropolitano: Christmas events and festive activities in 2020

mercoledì 23 Dicembre 2020

Even the most wonderful time of the year will be hit by the pandemic.

This Christmas will be different from previous years, deprived of many events that normally brighten the most wonderful and awaited time of the year.

But, despite the pandemic, the florentine area will still offer a calendar of initiatives.

Once again this year, the highlight of the festive session will be the F-Light, the FLorence LIght Festival which in 2020 will be dedicated to SIGHT dalla selva oscura alla luce. Sponsored by the City of Florence and organised by MUS.E, with artistic direction by Sergio Risaliti, F Light Sight will be held until the day of the Epiphany on January 6, 2021. It will fill the urban spaces with new light, thanks to video-mapping, projections, lightshows and art installations.

Classical concerts, Jazz, performances by florentine luthiers, theatre shows, Telephone Tales to commemorate Gianni Rodari, modern dance. These are some of the events planned for Inverno Fiorentino, the new cultural program conceived by Tommaso Sacchi, city councillor for culture.

The program will involve 79 individuals who will receive 150 thousands euros. Amongst other events we can mention Natale in Fiaccheria – the itinerant Armonie Natalizie bringing a concert along the alleyways of FLorence’s Historic Centre on Boxing Day

This Christmas too the nativity scene with its terracotta life-size statues will be set up on the parvis of the Cathedral of Florence.

We will also find this tradition in Sesto Fiorentino with the initiative Presepe a Sesto until 10 January.

Until 27 December, The Public Library in Scandicci, will organize a Christmas audiobook listening in collaboration with Powersoft. The traditional Christmans markets will take place in many squares of the metropolitan city, while other events are still pending, and could be suspended by governmental regulations.
