Events in Florence and the surrounding area in april 2023

Here is a rundown of events scheduled for April 2023 in Florence and the surrounding area. The announcements are taken from Feel Florence, the official tourism site of the Municipality of Florence and the metropolitan city area. April is the month of Easter, with the usual “Scoppio del Carro” (“Explosion of the Cart”) with which for over 350 years Florence has celebrated the Sunday of the Resurrection with its most ancient tradition. There are many events in the area. Amoung these, on 7th April in Grassina the performance of the Passion of Christ with the historical procession round the streets of the town. Sunday 9th, Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th April in Signa the celebrations for the Feast of Beata Giovanna are taking place. Art – Palazzo Medici Riccardi until 5th September will host the exhibition “Luca Giordano. Baroque master in Florence”, with a selection of around 50 works, some of which never seen in Florence until now. The Museum of the 1900s is hosting, until 13th September, the exhibition “Lucio Fontana. The origin of the world”, dedicated to a great man of the last century. The Cattedrale dell’Immagine is hosting the exhibition dedicated to the street art of Banksy, extended until 1st May. Until 14th May at the museum of the Treasure of the Grand Dukes in Palazzo Pitti, the biggest ever exhibition dedicated to the figure of the duchess Eleonora da Toledo. Until 30th July the Glass Museum of Empoli is hosting “Transparent history. Roman glass in Empoli”, an exhibition which is showing the results of the archeological excavations carried out in the city centre. Festivals – From 25th April to 1st May the 87th edition of the International Crafts Fair at the Fortezza da Basso is back. On the same days the Garden of Horticulture is hosting the 2023 edition of the market of plants and flowers.
