Here is a selection of events taking place in February 2018 in the Metropolitan City of Florence. The programme is listed on the area’s official tourist website: firenzeturismo.it

There are many exhibitions currently held in Florence. The Accademia Gallery hosts “Textiles and Wealth in 14th-century Florence. Wool, silk, paintings”. This exhibition focuses on how textiles, as a form of art, contributed to make Florence a famous city throughout the world.

The Novecento Museum will showcase works by Albanian artist Adrian Paci with his solo exhibition “Lights to serve the night” (Di queste luci si servirà la notte), until 11 February.

On 12 February, the exhibition “From Pinocchio to Harry Potter” will be inaugurated at Villa Bardini. The show will display 155 years of Italian illustration from the archive of the Florentine publishing company, Salani.

But February is first and foremost the month of Carnival. Florence will celebrate this annual festival with the music of the Orchestra della Toscana, which will perform the Carnival Concert at Teatro Verdi, on 13 February.

This month, Carnival celebrations will be held every Sunday in San Mauro a Signa, Dicomano and also in Castelfiorentino and Calenzano. Here carnival parades will have a theme: Castelfiorentino will re-enact the story of The Sword in the Stone, while the Medieval Carnival will be back in Calenzano.

On 18 February, a historical parade through Florence’s city centre will commemorate Anna Maria Luisa de’Medici, the last Princess of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. In her honour, the Medici Chapel will be open to the public free of charge as well as all Florence’s civic museums: Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Maria Novella, the Novecento Museum, the Brancacci Chapel and the Museum of Bigallo.

In Florence, from 22 to the 25 February, Fortezza da Basso will host Danzainfiera, the most important international fair event dedicated to dance. Sports lovers will have their last chance to skate on ice in the city: The Winter Park, currently located in Lungarno Aldo Moro, near Obihall, will in fact close on 25 February.
